Research focus

In our research group, we mainly focus on T-cell based immunotherapy of malignant diseases. In this context we analyze the intracellular processing of MHC class II restricted antigens, explore possible regulatory mechanisms of indirect antigen presentation and the effect of cell-specific processing of MHC class II antigens on the outcome of allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Differential processing of these antigens may enhance the graft-versus-leukemia effect without concomitant enhancement of graft-versus-host disease. Furthermore, we analyze the impact of antigen processing not only on allo-reactivity, but also on autoimmunity. Another core area of interest in our group is the identification of neoantigens in various solid tumors.

In a very recent project, we are analyzing the T cell response in the context of SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination.
